Howard Olson was born in Slayton, Minnesota. Since his early childhood, he has had a keen interest in the rural environment in which he was raised. His cognizance of rural America, combined with an extraordinary artistic skill, soon materialized into a respected style of painting.
Unlike many artists who have moved from one style of painting to another and from one media to another, Mr. Olson has held steadfast to his love of "rural realism" and watercolor. His subject matter remains constant; however his newer works continue to take on a special ambience that seems to heighten the realism of their actual existence.
The artist says, "I place a great deal of emphasis on technique to render the detail in my painting and yet try to retain a feeling of spontaneity and freshness in them." The subject matter in these paintings are landscapes and rural architecture.
Mr. Olson now resides in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he is a free lance artist. Mr. Olson attended Willmer Community College, The University of Minnesota and is a graduate of Mankato State University.
Mr. Olson`s works have been exhibited extensively in his native state as well as nationally. His painting are included in many public and private collections.
